Land Rover Rebuild
Our Land Rover 90 was bought from eBay for £2000 and is now at CMS 4x4 for service and repairs in advance of a trip to the MOT man.
Colin went over the Land Rover and coloured in all of the bit of chassis he was not happy with with yellow chalk. There was a lot; the initial estimate of welding was 2 days, but that is likely to rise as metal is stripped back and bits are taken off for other repairs. The back axle was condemned for being porous, (leaking oil through the case), and for rusted off brackets and spring seats. I found a replacement banjo case on eBay at a final cost of £21, so that was not a deal breaker.
The engine, gearbox, transfer box, front axle, interior and most panel works is either good or at least serviceable - the doors are poor and the chassis is proving rather holey, so all in all, I have my money’s worth.
As the welding is being fitted around other things, we won’t get the Land Rover back for probably two weeks, so we will get used to having the space on the drive.
Maria has her Fiat 500C and is loving it - still not got the hang of the infotainment system, but getting there!
